Bottom Re-Circulation
Drains, Water Pickups and Strainers For ponds over 500 gallons we will almost always recommend an external pump. When using an external pump, however, you will need a way to get the water out of the pond and to the pump. Bottom drains that are installed into the liner are the most efficient types of water pickups you can install. A vacuum type drain is the next best thing then a straining basket on the end of flex hose. When choosing the right bottom drain for your system you must keep several things in mind. Are your fish so small that they can be sucked down the drain? Can you install the drain into the liner or does it need to sit on top? Are you comfortable (with illustrated instructions and personal guidance) with installing a drain into the liner? (It sounds harder than what it is, by the way...) To get more information on bottom drains for a garden pond, visit The Pond Doc's Pond Construction Education Center. Here are a few articles that should be of help to you also:

2" Inverted
Vacuum Bottom Drain Used to retrofit existing ponds and where conventional bottom drains cannot be installed. Note: Small fish (smaller than 6") can be sucked up into the drain. A protective basket is available that can be placed over the drain to protect fish from being sucked into it until the fish get large enough. Vacuum bottom drain has 2" connection. In most cases a check valve is necessary to prevent water from vacating the leaf basket of the external pump and draining back into the pond, thus loosing the pump's prime. An EZ Fit option is available that already has the check valve (back flow preventer) installed and is easily connected to 2" hard PVC. Item #InvDrain.................$

Strainers & Strainer Assemblies
One of the easiest
retrofit items to use when switching from a submersible pump to an external in
an existing pond is by attaching a strainer to the end of flex hose.
Custom Strainer Assemblies
Allow us to do the work! In most
applications when you pull water from the pond you need a check valve to prevent
water from flowing back into the pond from the pump when the pump is turned off.
These assemblies are designed to to slip easily onto the end of the most common
sizes of flex hose and already have the check valve attached. All you have
to do is slip it on and tighten down the metal clamp.

Strainer Assembly Complete assembly to pull water from the pond to an external pump while preventing back flow problems. Assembly includes strainer cap, check valve, flex hose connection and stainless steel clamp, everything you need to quickly and easily attach the strainer to your flex hose. |
